Carbon gouging electrodes
Carbon gouging rods are copper clad rods for arc cutting with carbon electrode and compressed air, made from a mixture of graphite and pure carbon. Specific applications can be found in all areas of metalworking, foundry, steel construction, shipbuilding and repair and maintenance. Carbon gouging rods are used to prepare weld edges, gouge out multi-layer welds, burn out imperfections, cut bolt heads and studs, remove spatter and cut in a variety of ways.

Process description, recommendations for use:
Cargo gouging carbon rods are molten metal removed by means of an air stream. The intense heat of the arc between the carbon-graphite electrode and the workpiece melts some of the metal. At the same time, a stream of air is sent through the arc to blow away the molten metal. This process (carbon arc cutting with compressed air - CAC-A) is used for manual and mechanical cutting and gouging operations. Carbon steel, stainless steel, copper alloys, cast iron, aluminium, magnesium and nickel alloys can all be cut with carbon rods before gouging. This requires an electrode holder, cutting electrodes, a power source and an air supply. Manual electrode holders are similar to stick arc welding holders. The electrode is placed in a rotatable head with an air vent. The supplied valve allows the airflow to be turned on and off. They are intended for use with DC power.
